The Club was honored to have Mike Aimone, WA8AHZ, as our presentation speaker on May 21, 2026. He is the new ARRL VA Section Manager, and he is visiting club’s to share what he’s learning about the current state of the hobby and hear what we think.
He began by asking “What is the current state of the Hobby?”
•Are the number of licensed Amateur Radio Operators (AROs) growing or declining in Virginia?
•How does the number of Hams in VA compare to say other states?
•What percentage of licensed AROs are “Active”?

Mike was pleased by how many of our SVARC members were ARRL members and said this is one of the best ways we can support and benefit from everything ARRL does on our behalf. One of his slides gives a list of ARRL Membership Services and Programs.
He also talked about the importance of using our skills and knowledge to support community needs, events, emergency services, and communication services.
