Help needed Saturday only, October 17, 2026

The Scouting America’s (formerly Boy Scouts of America) annual Jamboree On The Air is scheduled for October 16-18, 2026. This year I have been asked by a Winchester Scout Troop if I could host a JOTA station as part of their campout in October.

I am looking to put together a team to help me put on an amateur radio program SATURDAY ONLY, October 17, 2026.

I’m hoping if we get enough hams to help, we can set up a few stations in a round-robin fashion to include (but we can definitely modify as necessary):

  1. Operating station (at least one HF and one VHF/UHF) (maybe voice and data?)
  2. CW practice
  3. Foxhunting
  4. Basic Radio 101
  5. What else? Ideas?

For more information on JOTA you can visit their website at: JOTA-JOTI 2026 | WOSM

We will setup and operate from the Izaak Walton League (2863 Millwood Pike Winchester, VA 22602) which is only a few miles outside Winchester. If you plan to help with this event in October, I highly recommend attending the meeting next week. I should have a gate code string the beginning of next week that will let you into the park. I will have a generator and 100 watt solar panel  available for power. I plan to have at least one meeting on location as we get closer.

Please let me know if you can commit to helping October 17 so we can start putting together a great program for the scouts.

If you can commit to helping, please let me know as soon as possible.

UPDATE:

So far I have the following signed up to help:

Mark Sunderlin – K4ED

Rich Kennedy – K3VAT (1200-1600)

Robert Holl – KQ4VGR

Gary Fortun – K4GJF

Don Goff – N4MDX – bringing his communications trailer.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
