Field Day 2023 – June 23-24 – Clarke County Fair Ground

Field Day is coming June 24-25. Field Day is Amateur Radio’s Open House event of the year where over 40,000 amateur stations go into the field, setup, operate and make contact. It is also a day of national emergency communications preparedness. We operate around the clock for 24 hours, make as many contacts across the United States, Canada and the World as we can, over as many different modes such as voice, digital and even morse code.

Amateur Radio is the heart of everything STEM – Science Technology Engineering and Math. Amateur Radio knowledge can lead to careers in Radio Frequency Engineering, Broadcasting in Media, Military Communications, Design, Build, Fabrication and more.

Please join us during Field Day this year, maybe even get on the air yourself and make a few contacts to experience for yourself! Come anytime from 2PM Saturday and through 1PM Sunday June 25.

Space Weather Mini Course: Analyses of Space Weather Events in the 20th Century and BeyondSpace Weather

Presented by Heliophysicist and Radio Amateur [WX6SWW] Dr Tamitha Skov, this is a 3 hour 20 minute mini course entitled Analyses of Space Weather Events in the 20th Century and Beyond, including a discussion of the 1859 Carrington Event. The Carrington Event was a massive solar flare that caused havoc and burned the infrasctructure of the Telegraph communications system and caused Auroras to be seen as far south as the Tropics. Normally Aurora are found around the higher latitudes including North and South Pole.   In relation to Amateur Radio and especially low, medium and high frequency communications [HF], GPS satellites and communications systems our Sun has tremendous potential to affect not only our communications in space, but also our infrastructure on the Earth.

Please consider supporting Dr. Skov’s efforts to inform and contribute a greater understanding to the importance of how our star, the Sun affects our planet Earth.

Open Headset Interconnect Standard [OHIS] N6MTS

N6MTS, Mark may be familiar to you as he is co-host of podcast HamRadioWorkBench.com. Mark has founded a company that is designing products for the audiophile and amateur radio. At the May 2023 Dayton Hamvention, Mark presented his open headset interconnect standard. Mark realized an opportunity with the ability to use any headset, with any amateur radio, without the need for a box-full of adapters.  What mark has in development and pending production is a solution that allows an interconnect between any radio, and any headset. Hat tip to Mark for finding a problem and taking on the challenge to bring a long needed solution to market. Thank you, Mark!  You can find out more at Mark’s website: https://ohis.org/  73.

Memorial Day
